Parallel Universe 08.29.2003
Labor Day Weekend kicked off with the return of Deepsky to Atlanta. This LA-based duo puts on one great live P.A. and for this 'parallel' night, they did the double duty of DJing, after their stage show. A strong cast of Atlanta and Athens (almost entirely from the Dash roster) talents rounded out the evening.
Ross Hambrick kick started the evening with a banging progressive set, winning a few new fans along the way. But most eyes, and ears, were anxiously affixed on the shadowy movement on stage. Back in the VIP lounge, the guests were treated to DJ Weatherman playing house instead of dnb.
Shortly after 12:30a.m. Deepsky took stage and performed their live set to a near-capacity dance floor. They opened with "Talk Like A Stranger," a forthcoming Yoshitoshi('04) release. And followed that with a few other new Deepsky remixes, such as their treatment of "Wavy Gravy" and their 2nd Madonna remix, "Music." To my surprise, they did not include the remix from the late summer box office sleeper "Bad Boys II."
The other tracks were from In Silico, and some un-idenfied works from their next album... also due for Spring 2004. The set concluded with the Deepsky mix of "Healing" by Human Movement. This was followed by a brief intermission (Ross Hambrick) and then Scott and Jason took over the decks and kept the party going for almost another two hours. Throughout the night, DJ Ezra, NO:3 and Barry Sikora kept the music flowing in the VIP lounge, for anyone taking a break from the main room.
Altogether a fun night, and another solid appearance by the DJ-producer-live artistsScott & Jason/Deepsky. Thanks Dash Productions.
