  Brett Mauro Amorphous
Rating: 4 out of 5 Rating: 4 out of 5 Rating: 4 out of 5 Rating: 4 out of 5

by Roberto Torreggiani

DJ Brett Mauro (a.k.a. Viral) is a virtual babe to the Atlanta DJ circuit, but you would never be able to tell by his latest promotional CD, Amorphous. Brett does not disappoint us with his latest work, by maintaining a dark, progressive feel throughout the set. This seems to be his sound of choice every time I have had the privilege of hearing him play.

Brett begins with "Lazy Monday" by Paul Rogers and sets the mood even further by slipping into Bermuda Triangle's "Mooger Fooger". His transitions are seamless, and near perfect, with the only exception being that he needs to watch his levels on a few tracks. The majority of his selections don't get beaten to death by most DJ's, which is key, especially when you are trying to create your own identity. I really enjoy it when DJs take the road less traveled. This is one of the things that make Brett Mauro's set interesting; he takes time to pick and choose his tracks, and makes a distinct effort to push more obscure cuts, rather than just buying everything that has been charted by a noteworthy DJ.

He keeps a driving tempo throughout the set with tracks such as Deep Funk Project's "2 Heavy," and doesn't really start blowing it out until the very end with Guy Gerber & Sahar Z's "Kenny's Back" and Charlie May's remix of "Deep Love". It is to my dismay that he is not playing out more. After promoters get their hands on this promo, I'm sure this will change. I expect to see Brett's name on many flyers in the months to come. Keep up the good work, DJ Viral. It will soon pay dividends.
