  Liquid Todd - Solid State
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Rating: 3.5 out of 5

by Onisha Roman

Earlier this year, Liquid Todd released his second mixed CD, Solid State, under the Right-Stuff/EMI label. Although it shares names with the Saturday night show he hosts on New York's infamous K-Rock station, it does not share the same sound. While his radio show has been described as "rocktronica", LT takes on a different approach with the CD by giving it more of a trance breaks feel. "Welcome to the Real Word" by Burufunk starts the set off with an ambient sound that seems to take you by the hand and lead you into a steady progression of beats and bass. The CD builds with a pleasing track selection, climaxes about two-thirds of the way through, and finishes off in the same tone as it began. After listening to it many times through, Solid State began to sound a bit repetitive, but I still found myself reaching for it in the mornings to help wake me up, study or doing some light reading.
