Details are scarce, but I've been informed that Johnny was found dead at his house today. That's all I know right now.

| Quote: | Joe Cruz here. I am johnny's friend and roommate. Thank you all for your well wishes. The laubach family thanks you all. I have no word on a service yet. I know Johnny requested creamation. Sorry for the delay. We just got word that Johnny died from blunt force trama to the head, a freak accident. I am not going to speculate on the cause of his fall. We will miss you dearly, Johnny Ether.
All I can say is that I will let you all know when and where the service will be held asap. There will be a gathering at the Albert in inman park in his honor. Time and day TBD.
Thank you.
Joe Cruz. |

I just got JE's call. I am stunned and saddened. Many of you may know him as the owner of East Side Lounge. But to me he has been a friend for over 20 years. Johnny was a great man and he will be missed by a whole city. The band I used to manage called The Changelings even wrote a song about him. "Johnny Ether's Great Escape", back when he was running Kaya. _________________ MJ

I have just gotten confirmation from my friend Joe (whom Johnny was renting a room from). I'm stunned. Johnny and I were roommates on Van Vleck (In East Atl) for about a year back in 2002-2003. |

How did he die? Is there a funeral?
We played his music on WRAS. He was a talented and kind person. He will be missed.

| Oh man, what the fuck. I was just talking to a friend last week who asked what he was up to, I said I hadn't talked to him in a while. Damn, I'm in shock. |

He was bartending for Tia (the former owner of Kaya) at her new restaurant the Albert in Grant Park when we saw him last. Very sad |

From Joe (in a email I just received)
"For those of you who haven't heard. Johnny my roommate passed this morning. As of now it is considered due to sickness/natural cause. There will be an autopsy tomorrow to determine cause of death. Currently suicide has been ruled out. WTF! RIP Johnny "Ether" Laubach. We will miss you." |

Johnny gave my first ever gig in Atlanta, at Trinity Lounge, opening for Blue States.
This saddens me beyond words...I really don't know what to say.
Rest in peace, friend. |

fucking hell.
what a huge loss. johnny is one of the coolest guys in this scene. i knew him from kaya, trinity and fountain head lounge. he was always so encouraging; always greeting me with a smile.
this is terrible, terrible news. |

Unfortunately it's beginning to appear that this was completely accidental. What a tragic thing...

Eve saw something on somebody's mySpace profile, and directed me here... we are truly saddened and shocked.
Eve knew Johnny for many years, and for me, I got to know him when we started our weekly gig at Trinity on Wednesdays. I can't think of many other people who joyously worked so hard - Atlanta's nightlife has lost a great friend.
