I wouldn't expect most people to care about any of the details. Over half of the country doesn't even pay taxes at this point and everybody hates the IRS anyway. This isn't going to make a major splash past the initial headline until a special prosecutor starts going after the admin in pursuit of indictments/impeachment going into the next election.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/09/white-house-irs-exchanged-confidential-taxpayer-info/

Quote:
Top Internal Revenue Service Obamacare official Sarah Hall Ingram discussed confidential taxpayer information with senior Obama White House officials, according to 2012 emails obtained by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and provided to The Daily Caller.

And now the trail goes right to the White House as expected.

And yet again, it fizzles. Those emails were over-zealously redacted, and the full, unredacted emails have been provided to the House committee now, and they show no confidential taxpayer information.

You do realize that an internal review is like asking a bank robber to investigate whether or not he robbed the bank right?

You should note the third comment below that article you linked to:

Quote:
I do not understand this article. Form 990 is a “Return of An Organization Exempt from Tax”. It is not a tax return since no tax is calculated or paid with it, but an information return that is required by law to be viewable by the public. Forms 990 are posted on the IRS’ website, on Guidestar.com, and are required to be given by the organization to anyone who requests one. Exempt organizations that pay taxes do so on Forms 1120-POL (political organizations), 990-T (Unrelated Business Income Tax), or Form 941 (Employment Taxes). Form 1024 is available to the public upon request. If you are reporting that Ms. Lerner allowed the FEC intrude upon IRS’ 1024 approval process, that is one thing, but asserting that Forms 990 and 1024 are confidential documents is misleading at best. Please correct your article.

You can read more about Form 990, and how they are available to the public here:
http://www.guidestar.org/rxg/help/faqs/form-990/index.aspx

Form 1024 is also subject to public disclosure:
http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Public-Disclosure-and-Availability-of-Exempt-Organizations-Returns-and-Applications:-Documents-Subject-to-Public-Disclosure

If you, yourself, or any FEC attorney, walked into the offices of the organization in question and asked them to see these documents that were emailed, the organization would be required by law to provide you with a copy or face up to a $10,000 fine.

Confidential information was not disclosed in those emails.
